Wow. Nearly a whole year.
I am pretty ashamed of myself for not submitting anything during all that time! Whatever I happened to my New Years Resolution of submitting at least one piece a month, eh? (Personally, I like to hide behind the fact that I submitted a 14-page comic, so technically I'm covered for 14 months. Right? Right??)
Anyhoo, I worked quite hard and quite quickly on this cover submission for BAAU Down Volume 10! The theme of spunky anime girls wielding larger-than-life art tools lives on! This time, the modern wacom tablet/pen combo is replaced by more traditional mediums like colored pencils, erasers, and even crayons.
I hope that it gets selected to represent the anthology!
Seeing as I'm already writing a journal entry, I guess I'll take some time to reflect on how I filled my time this past year.
Let's see... Soon after the BAAU Down 9 story submission, I broke up with my longtime boyfriend and found new love!! New loves are always exciting--much to explore and discover about the new person and realize some things about yourself as well.
This experience allowed me to get into things like motorcycling, marathon training, navigating the new world of having a roommate, and watching lots and lots of movies.
Meanwhile, work at Namco Bandai was ramping up considerably! Granted there were fun and exciting conventions to attend, including E3 and some voice over sessions down in Burbank, which are always an absolute blast!
Hours at the office got longer as the days got shorter, and for a good while there, I was spending some nights a week sleeping under my desk during crunchtime. (I'm now more properly equipped with pillows, blankets, and even a fancy game controller-shaped eye mask.)
There was one morning after a night at the office that I got hit by a car while on my bicycle, but fortunately I walked away relatively unscathed.
I had a wonderful Xmas vacation visiting my twin up in Oregon followed by some days in Reno, skiing! I was happy to find myself dominating the slopes so easily after years away!
My last exciting trip was spent in Cambodia and then Vietnam for the amazing New Years holiday of Tet! Learning elementary Vietnamese for a few months really paid off and now Vietnam has a very special place in my heart.
As spring begins to creep up on the horizon, I find myself blessed with opportunities to draw, and I look forward to spending time nurturing this talent once again!
Here's to a (belated) new year!

Heart Locked Finished
Pheeeew.
So I finally submitted my short story for the BAAU 9 anthology, Heart Locked! As part of my "upload at least one piece of artwork every month" New Year's Resolution, I decided to upload page 3 (cover page) of my short story as a sort of preview here in my DA site.
Even though it was such a struggle to get it done on time (damn me and my procrastination!!), I was just telling myself this morning, "Hm, I'd like to make another story~" Maybe I could get way ahead by working on it much earlier in time for BAAU 10!
All in all, I'm about 80-90% happy with the final product. I know there are parts where the transitions are unclear, and I
Mangaka-1-2-B Atsumare 2/28 Meetup Aftermath
Wow, this was one meeting that was just full of surprises!
I'll start by saying that I was THIS close to completely cancelling it after hearing that this person and that person and one other person would not be attending. Let me just say I'm glad I didn't!
We ended up having a great turnout of people, along with a wonderful cast of new members! The greatest treat of all had to be ~sukinahito (https://www.deviantart.com/sukinahito)'s attendance! As a professional artist, she shared a lot about where she started and how she got to where she is now, as well as the daily trials and tribulations of drawing for a living.
We also had the talented :icontaichichan: join us for the f
Mangaka 1-2-B Atsumare 2/7 Meetup Aftermath
This Mangaka 1-2-B was a bit special because we had a guest "teacher"--D from BAAU!
It was refreshing to listen to someone else's perspective on art, and his focus pushed us out of our comfort zones by having us focus on the more realistic features of the human face. As he said so eloquently, it's important to learn the core basics of artwork before taking pleasure in deforming and manipulating the human form into the more simplistic/exaggerated manga form.
D's approach was very straightforward and energetic, and made for a really fun meetup!
I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!
Now to tackle his rather challenging homework assign
1/17 - Mangaka/Anime 2-in-1
So today was an impromptu Mangaka 1-2-B meets Anime club. I thought it'd serve as a great opportunity to attract new members, and maybe even carry out the intentions of a regular Mangaka meetup.
Unfortunately, the sheer number of people present made it pretty difficult to carry on conversations, and I think I blew out my voice because of having to speak over the noise. (The karaoke afterward didn't help much either. Ha ha!)
I did get a chance to chat briefly with Kai, whom I was able to share my little tidbits of working the pen tool in Photoshop. ^^ That felt good. I do hope she gets a wacom tablet so that we can draw together more!
